Yes, you can freeze Pastizzi. Freezing allows you to prepare a large batch of Pastizzi and then store them for future use.
If you were to walk through the streets of the Mediterranean gem that is the island of Malta. You would find it hard to escape from this delightful piece of cuisine.
These small savoury pastries are perfect with a cup of coffee as part of an on the go breakfast for the busy professional; or indeed anyone who needs to grab a bite to eat as they are dashing out the door. We are massive fans of these here at Hodmedod’s and only wish we could get to enjoy them more.
Here are some steps to freeze Pastizzi:
Prepare the Pastizzi: Follow your favourite Pastizzi recipe and prepare the pastries as you normally would2.
Cool Down: Allow the Pastizzi to cool down completely before freezing. This prevents the formation of ice crystals, which can affect the texture of the pastry1.
Wrap and Store: Wrap each Pastizzi individually in cling film or place them in a freezer-safe bag1. This helps to protect the pastries from freezer burn and makes it easy to take out individual servings as needed.
Freeze: Place the wrapped Pastizzi in the freezer.
When you’re ready to enjoy your frozen Pastizzi, you can reheat them in the oven until they’re hot and crispy. Enjoy your Pastizzi! 😊
Pastizzi are best enjoyed hot and fresh from the oven. Uncooked Pastizzi may be frozen for up to one month. Then enjoyed by baking in a preheated oven at 220C for 25–30 minutes until golden and piping hot throughout.
